Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his private home in Caesarea over the weekend. The attack was carried out by Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists using a suicide drone. Fortunately, Netanyahu and his wife were not at the residence at the time, and there were no casualties reported.
Israeli defense forces were able to shoot down two of the drones launched in the attack, but one managed to evade destruction. Netanyahu, in a rare video statement released on Shabbat, vowed to continue battling Iran's terrorist proxies and stated that nothing would deter him from accomplishing Israel's goals.
This incident marks the first time since the current conflict with Iran and its proxies began that Netanyahu has been directly targeted. The attack comes in response to Israel's termination of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Iranian-backed Hamas terror group, earlier in the week. Sinwar was responsible for a deadly attack on Israeli civilians.
Hezbollah has declared a transition to a new and escalatory phase in its confrontation with Israel, promising further developments in the coming days. In addition to the assassination attempt on Netanyahu, Hezbollah launched a separate attack with dozens of rockets that wounded at least nine people in northern Israel.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to escalate hostilities. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Israel and its adversaries.
