Biden predicts Hurricane Milton may be worst storm in Florida

President Biden is warning of the potential devastation that Hurricane Milton could bring to Florida, with the storm forecast to make landfall in the Tampa area along the state's west coast. The Category 4 hurricane is currently located off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and is expected to bring damaging winds and storm surge upon arrival.

In his statement, President Biden emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that Hurricane Milton could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century. He urged residents in the storm's path to listen to local officials and follow evacuation orders, emphasizing that it is a matter of life and death.

The President also mentioned that he has been in communication with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, offering support and resources as the state prepares for the storm. He noted that FEMA has already deployed 300 ambulances to assist in moving individuals out of healthcare facilities that may be in harm's way.

President Biden acknowledged the ongoing impact of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee, stating that resources are still being directed to respond to the aftermath of that storm. He emphasized the need for continued support and funding to address the damage caused by both hurricanes.

As Hurricane Milton approaches, President Biden has canceled a planned trip to focus on the response efforts and has dispatched FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to work closely with state and local partners. The President highlighted the importance of preparedness and collaboration in the face of natural disasters, emphasizing the need for a coordinated response to ensure the safety and well-being of those in affected areas.
