Caitlin Clark sets WNBA record despite loss

In a historic performance, rookie Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever set a WNBA record with 19 assists in a game against the Dallas Wings. The milestone came in a 101-93 loss for the Fever, with Clark's record-setting assist setting up a game-tying 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining. However, a late turnover by Clark ultimately contributed to Dallas' game-ending 8-0 run.

Despite her impressive performance, Clark expressed disappointment in the late turnover that proved costly for her team. The previous record of 18 assists was held by Courtney Vandersloot of the Chicago Sky, with Ticha Penicheiro holding the previous rookie record of 16 assists.

In addition to her record-setting assists, Clark also scored 24 points, while teammate Aliyah Boston contributed 28 points on efficient shooting. Boston benefited from Clark's playmaking, with eight of her baskets coming off of Clark's assists.

Clark's performance also solidified her place in WNBA history, as she became the first rookie and ninth player overall to record at least 400 points and 200 assists in a season. This achievement places her among the ranks of WNBA legends such as Sue Bird, Chelsea Gray, and Alyssa Thomas.

Despite her individual success, Clark remained humble, emphasizing her focus on setting up her teammates for success. She acknowledged that there were moments where she may have overpassed instead of taking a shot herself, highlighting her selfless approach to the game.

Overall, Caitlin Clark's record-breaking performance showcases her talent and potential as a rising star in the WNBA.
