Honda recalls 720K vehicles for fuel pump cracks, fire risk

Honda has recently announced a recall of approximately 720,800 vehicles across various models due to a potential issue with the high-pressure fuel pump. The affected vehicles include the 2023-2024 Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid, 2025 Honda Civic and Civic Hybrid, and 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid. According to a recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there is a risk of cracks in a component of the high-pressure fuel pump, which could lead to fuel leaks.

The automaker has stated that if a fuel leak were to occur in the presence of an ignition source, the risk of a fire, crash, or injury would increase. However, there have been no known injuries or deaths related to this issue since Honda received its first warranty claim in February of last year. A total of 145 warranty claims have been reported.

Honda has urged owners of the affected vehicles to visit an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification. The company will be offering free inspections and replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump if found to be defective. Notification letters for the recall are expected to be sent out to customers in December.

The problem with the high-pressure fuel pump is attributed to improper production, as stated in the recall report. Honda has since improved supplier production processes to address the issue with the fuel pump component. The automaker has already begun using the "improved" fuel pump in the manufacturing of the affected models.

It is worth noting that American Honda falls under the umbrella of Honda Motor Co. Ltd., the parent company of the Honda brand. The safety and well-being of customers remain a top priority for Honda, and the company is taking proactive measures to address the issue and ensure the safety of its vehicles.
